In 2002 Liakos and Associate Architects was appointed to reform a former industrial building of the seventies, so as to accommodate the new Athens Imperial Hotel. The refurbishment started with a complete strip out of the structural elements and a fast track construction method was chosen in order to meet the deadline of the Olympic Games.

The design of Athens Imperial is arranged around a spectacular atrium, which commands a great presence in the centre of the hotel. Its geometry is a fitting centrepiece to the overall composition of the hotel, and provides a dynamic and active experience for the guests in the transition to and from the guest rooms.

The atrium is also bringing natural daylight into the interior core of the building. The 22.600 m² hotel develops in 8 storeys and contains 237 guest rooms as well as bars, restaurants and leisure facilities.
